Bourelle Martial Arts was first opened in Wilmington, NC in late 2004 under the name, “Wilmington Martial Arts Center”. It’s moved to a few different locations as the school has grown, starting in the garage of owner Dan Bourelle, then moving to the Childrens Learning Center on Medical Center drive. It made a short stint in a group fitness room at what was Peak Fitness at the time, before renting out space at Crisp Martial Arts Academy. From there, Mr. Bourelle opened the studio full time at a more permanent location on Oleander near Mellow Mushroom where the name changed to “Wilmington Martial Arts & Fitness Center” as it introduced personal training options and group fitness classes along with its martial arts classes.
After more than 8 years at that location, the school made another move to its current location at 800 Shipyard in order to expand and provide a slightly larger facility for its growing students. Just before this move is when the name changed once more to “Bourelle Martial Arts”. This name change is a reflection of the changes and evolving nature of our martial arts systems as well as a way to connect with fellow schools in Nebraska run by my brother, Mike Bourelle, that now all go by the same name.
Since opening the doors here in Wilmington back in 2004, Bourelle Martial Arts has seen excellent growth and has solidified itself as one of Wilmington’s premiere Martial Arts studios!
